President of Russia Vladimir Putin has signed a decree aimed at reforming the system of public administration in the field of migration.
As part of this initiative, a new structure—the Service for Citizenship and Registration of Foreign Citizens—is being established on the basis of the Main Directorate for Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The document instructs the Government to review the staffing levels of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its central office within three months, make the necessary amendments to regulatory acts, and ensure funding for the new service. The Minister of Internal Affairs must organize all necessary measures to launch the structure within the same time frame.
The decree also introduces amendments to existing legislation, repealing a number of provisions from previous decrees regulating the migration sphere. These changes are intended to align the legal framework with the new model of migration management.
The document enters into force upon signing.
