Starting February 5, a public electronic register containing information about foreign citizens illegally residing in Russia will become operational.
Alexander Gorovoy explained that anyone will be able to check the residency status of a foreigner with whom they plan to enter into an employment contract via the internet. This tool will enable verification of a person’s legal presence in the country, which will become a mandatory requirement for formalizing employment relationships.
At the same time, individuals illegally residing in Russia will face restrictions on access to a number of key services, including vehicle transactions, banking operations, purchasing transportation tickets, and registering marriages. These measures aim to reduce the level of illegal migration and establish a transparent accounting system.
According to Alexander Gorovoy, the portal is fully prepared for launch, and its database is currently being populated. The system will enable authorities to quickly verify information about any foreigner. The deputy minister expressed hope that the new platform will become a significant step in streamlining migration policy.
