In Russia, the status of native Russian language speaker will be abolished for foreign citizens

Foreign citizens will no longer be able to obtain the status of native Russian language speaker and the associated preferences. The corresponding bill has been submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Previously, this status allowed for eligibility to obtain a residence permit (RP) and Russian citizenship.

The bill makes an exception for potential native Russian language speakers: people who permanently resided in the Russian Empire or the USSR retain the right to simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship. It proposes a simplified procedure for obtaining a residence permit for them. Additionally, the simplified procedure may be applied to the foreigner's direct ascending relatives.

For those who voluntarily renounced Russian citizenship, a 90-day stay in Russia is provided with the possibility of obtaining a residence permit through a simplified procedure.

Those who lost their citizenship due to submitting forged documents or false information must leave the country within 15 days. The law does not provide the possibility of obtaining a residence permit for them.

If a person has a travel ban, they must eliminate the reasons preventing them from leaving the country.
