A bill has been introduced to the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the deprivation of Russian citizenship in case of a citizen's oath violation. Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, Mikhail Matveyev, made such a statement.
"If this bill is not supported, then, apparently, it will have to be acknowledged that the Russian oath is only formal," believes Matveyev. The explanatory note to the document states that the oath of allegiance to Russia, taken by those acquiring citizenship, represents an official solemn oath with equal legal significance for everyone. However, "underestimation of the moral, psychological, ideological, and constitutional significance of the oath" leads to violations by natives of foreign states who have acquired citizenship.
The oath taken by foreigners when obtaining Russian citizenship includes obligations to comply with the Constitution and laws of the Russian Federation, to defend the country's independence, and to demonstrate loyalty to Russia and respect for its culture and traditions.
Recall that earlier, two residents of the Chelyabinsk region were deprived of Russian citizenship for evading military service and failing to comply with military registration.
