Russia is about to introduce simplified electronic visas for citizens of 53 countries
Details
"Among the states whose citizens will be able to apply for such visas will be China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and so on"
From January 1, 2021, citizens of 53 countries will be able to visit Russia under an electronic visa, which can be obtained in a simplified manner. 16-day electronic visas will be provided for citizens of the European Union and a number of countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
Citizens of the United States, Britain and Canada will not be able to obtain such an electronic visa, said Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov. “The decision to include a country in the list was made taking into account a number of factors, including their visa policy with regard to Russian citizens,” Ivanov said.
Potential tourists are invited to apply for an electronic visa on the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Russia at least four days before arrival in the country. Applicants will not be charged a consular fee. Ivanov confirmed that the state will charge a fee of $ 50 for each visa.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to introduce an electronic visa system for foreign visitors since 2021.
Since 2017, passport holders from 18 countries can apply for a free single-entry electronic visa to visit the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia. Since 2019, an electronic visa can also be obtained for visiting the cities of St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad.
