Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation have passed a law granting the borrower the right to impose a self-restriction on entering into consumer credit or loan agreements with them. According to the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, this decision will provide citizens with additional protection against fraudsters who may use other people's personal data to obtain loans.
Vyacheslav Volodin added that the prohibition on obtaining loans and credits in one's name can be set through the "Gosuslugi" portal or by contacting the Multifunctional Center (MFC). This restriction will be reflected in the borrower's credit history, and it can be revoked at any time by following a simple procedure.
The Committee on the Financial Market of the State Duma of the Russian Federation noted that there are "no legal-technical or linguistic remarks on the draft federal law."
This Federal Law comes into force on March 1, 2025.
