The Russian government submitting to the State Duma the law on establishing the term for the detention of expelled from Russia foreign citizens and stateless persons in special institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the document published on the Government website, such term will not exceed 90 days from the date of issuing an order to expel such persons outside the Russian Federation.
The law was prepared in pursuance of the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, which recognized as illegal the number of provisions on the maintenance of foreigners expelled from Russia in special detention centers. "The purpose of the law is to ensure judicial control over the terms of keeping persons without citizenship in special institutions subject to compulsory expulsion from Russia," the explanatory note to the document reads.
