Anna Kuznetsova, Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of the Russian Federation, proposed organizing people's control over prices for basic foodstuffs. Kuznetsova stressed that it is necessary to create an effective feedback system, as well as regular test purchases.
“People's control would allow keeping a finger on the pulse of prices and promptly reacting to cases of a sharp rise in the cost of certain basic products,” Kuznetsova commented on her initiative.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko said that a system for monitoring food prices has been organized, and the necessary decisions are made based on its results:
- in December 2020, agreements were concluded on the adoption of measures to stabilize prices for sugar and sunflower oil;
- a duty-free quota for the import of sugar into Russia has been fixed;
- increased rates of export customs duties have been established for sunflower seeds, rapeseed, etc.
