In Russia, the sale of animals in pet shops and poultry markets may be banned. The corresponding bill was submitted to the State Duma by the chairman of the committee on ecology and environmental protection Vladimir Burmatov. It is assumed that the Government of the Russian Federation will establish the requirements for the places of sale of animals.
“Requirements for such places are currently not established, which entails frequent abuse in this area. Animals are often kept in cramped conditions, without proper veterinary assistance and care, deprived of normal nutrition, the ability to walk and communicate, with violations of sanitary standards, ”the explanatory note says.
In order to ensure humane treatment of animals, it is proposed to establish requirements for places where animals are sold, excluding cruelty to them.
“It is planned to consider the bill in the fall. A positive conclusion of the Government of the Russian Federation was received on it. I hope this will put an end to the abuse of animals in places where their stay falls under the definition of "cruel treatment" and is dangerous for the animals themselves, which often simply do not live up to the moment of sale, "Burmatov said.
