Russia Has Restricted Entry To Foreign Citizens

"The Russian Government has decided to close the borders for the entry of foreign citizens"

 

Mikhail Mishustin (Prime Minister) held phone conversations with prime ministers of a number of foreign states, informing them of the closure of entry of foreign citizens and stateless persons into Russia from 00:00 March 18 to 00:00 May 1.

Russian authorities began to close the borders for aviation and rail traveling from January 31. This is done "to ensure state security, protect public health and prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in accordance with Russian law and the provisions of applicable international treaties," the Russian Government said in its statement.

Exceptions will be made in relation to employees of diplomatic missions and consular posts, drivers of international road traffic, crews of aircraft, sea and river vessels, train crews of international rail services, members of official delegations and persons holding diplomatic, business, ordinary private visas issued in connection with the death of a close relative, persons permanently residing in the territory of Russia, as well as persons traveling in transit through air border crossing points.

The heads of governments agreed to maintain contacts on issues related to the threat of the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier it became known that the Russian authorities are considering the possibility of restricting the departure of Russians abroad.
