"A simplified entry procedure for the territory of Russia with electronic visas is planned to be extended to river ports and vehicle checkpoints"
Currently, foreigners arriving in Russia through border checkpoints on the territory of the free port of the city of Vladivostok and the Special Economic Zone in the Kaliningrad Region, as well as air border checkpoints of the Far Eastern Federal District of Russia can obtain visas in the form of an electronic document.
The bill proposes to issue electronic visas to those who arrive not only via air checkpoints but also via car, river and mixed checkpoints in the Far East. The particular checkpoints will be determined by the Government of the Russian Federation.
The simplified entry procedure will not affect railways and seaports, since railway transport does not have equipment for checking electronic visas, and foreigners do not require entry through seaports.
According to the law “On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation”, foreigners who arrived by means of electronic visa have the right to freely move through the territory of only those regions of Russia where they have entered.
